Civitavecchia is the gateway cruise port for Rome, located approximately one hour north of the Eternal City by train or bus. While the port town itself has a charming historic centre and Michelangelo's Fort, most visitors use their day ashore to explore Rome's iconic landmarks.
What to Do in a Day in Rome
Hop on the train to Roma Termini (about 80 minutes) and head to the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Walk to the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon, then cross to Vatican City for St. Peter's Basilica. If you prefer staying closer to port, explore Civitavecchia's Forte Michelangelo, the Taurine Baths and the seafront promenade with excellent seafood restaurants.
The tours below are not organized by the cruise lines. Bookings are made directly with GetYourGuide and you are responsible for getting back to the ship on time. If you prefer the cruise line's guarantee, contact our travel advisors after booking.
